T20 World Cup 2026: Italy’s Benjamin Manenti Creates History, but Scotland Cruise to 73-Run Victory

Scotland registered a comprehensive 73-run win over Italy in the T20 World Cup 2026, overshadowing a historic batting feat by Italian cricketer Benjamin Manenti. Despite Manenti becoming the first Italian batsman to score a half-century in T20 World Cup history, Italy failed to challenge Scotland’s imposing total.

Historic Feat in Defeat for Italy

Chasing a daunting target of 208 runs, Italy’s innings folded for 134 in just 16.4 overs. The task became even more difficult as captain Wayne Madsen was ruled out due to injury, leaving the team one player short.

Amid the collapse, 28-year-old Benjamin Manenti stood out with a landmark knock. He scored 52 runs off 31 balls at a strike rate of 167.74, striking five fours and a six. With this innings, Manenti etched his name into the record books as Italy’s first-ever half-centurion in T20 World Cup history.

He was well supported by his younger brother, Harry Manenti, who scored 37 off 25 balls at a strike rate of 148, including three sixes. However, the Manenti brothers’ efforts were not enough to threaten Scotland’s dominance.

Scotland’s Strong Batting Display

Earlier, Scotland laid the foundation for victory by scoring 207 runs for four wickets in their 20 overs. This marked the second time Scotland crossed the 200-run mark against Italy in T20 internationals.

Opener George Munsey was the star of the innings, smashing 84 runs off 54 balls at a strike rate of 155.55. His knock included 13 fours and two sixes and provided the backbone of Scotland’s big total.

Result Overshadows Record

While Benjamin Manenti’s half-century remains a significant milestone for Italian cricket, the match firmly belonged to Scotland. Their all-round performance ensured a dominant win and underlined their growing strength in the T20 World Cup 2026, even as Italy took pride in a historic individual achievement.
