Stronger Than Steel: 2025 Tesla Model Y Scores 5 Stars in Euro NCAP Crash Tests

The 2025 Tesla Model Y has reaffirmed its position as one of the safest electric SUVs in the world. In the latest round of Euro NCAP crash tests, the Model Y achieved a full 5-star safety rating, excelling in both occupant protection and advanced safety technology.

Adult Occupant Protection – 91 Percent
The tested model was the left-hand-drive dual-motor AWD version. Although this specific variant is not sold in India, the same 5-star rating also applies to the right-hand-drive Model Y Long Range RWD offered in the Indian market.

In the frontal offset test, the Model Y’s body shell remained highly stable. Protection for the head, chest, lumbar area, and legs was rated between good and adequate. The SUV also performed exceptionally in side-impact tests, though chest protection was assessed as marginal in the side-pole scenario. Overall, the cabin structure provided strong protection for adult occupants.

Child Occupant Protection – 93 Percent
The Model Y performed outstandingly in child safety tests, earning a perfect 24/24 score in assessments using six- and ten-year-old dummies. Protection for the head, neck, chest, and legs remained consistently adequate in both frontal and lateral impacts.

The car also allows safe installation of a rear-facing child seat due to its ability to disable the front passenger airbag. A clear notification informs the driver about the airbag’s status to prevent misuse.

Its Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system can detect pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, helping avoid collisions or reduce their severity.

Safety Assist – 92 Percent
The Model Y continues to stand out in safety assist technologies. Notable features include:

Driver Monitoring System
Lane Keep Assist
Speed Limiter
Seatbelt reminders for all seating positions
