Shubman Gill Awarded Expensive Wine for Scoring 430 Runs at Edgbaston Test

Shubman Gill delivered a stellar performance in the second Test against England at Edgbaston, scoring a massive 269 runs in the first innings and 161 in the second, totaling 430 runs. This exceptional display helped India secure a 336-run victory and earned him the Player of the Match award.

Unlike in India, where cash prizes are common, in England the Player of the Match often receives a bottle of award-winning wine. Gill was presented with a medal and a bottle of premium English wine priced at over ₹21,000, highlighting the unique tradition of English cricket awards.

Gill’s innings broke several records: he became the first cricketer to score 430 runs across all three international formats—Test, ODI, and T20. His 269 runs were the highest by an Indian captain in Tests, and he was the only player to score both a double century and a century in the same Test match.

With this historic achievement, expectations are high as Gill prepares for the upcoming Lord’s Test.
