If you use an SBI Card, this update is crucial for you. Recently, several changes have been made to credit card regulations, which will directly impact your spending, rewards, and cashback.
Although many changes have been implemented since April, their impact will be more clearly visible from May. Therefore, it's important to understand what has changed and what you should keep in mind.
Reward points rules tightened
The biggest change for SBI card users has come regarding reward points.
- You can now redeem only a limited number of reward points per month
- Statement credits are capped at a maximum of 60,000 points
- Redemption will now be in fixed slabs, such as multiples of 4,000 points
This means that you will no longer get unlimited benefits like before and you will have to use your points wisely.
New limit on cashback also imposed
If you use Cashback SBI card, then this change is even more important for you.
- Cashback limit per statement cycle has now been reduced
- Maximum cashback has been capped at around ₹4,000
- Some expense categories will no longer offer the same benefits as before.
This means that even if you spend more, you will not get the same returns as before.
Changes in spend-based benefits
Under the new rules, many benefits will now be linked to expenses.
- Spending terms may apply for airport lounge access
- Some cards only offer rewards if you spend up to a certain limit.
From this it is clear that to take full advantage of the card, you will have to plan your expenses.
Benefits will be less on some transactions
Under the new rules, rewards may be reduced or eliminated for certain types of spending:
- rent payment
- Some utility bills
- Insurance Payment
Rewards may be limited or discontinued for these categories
What effect will be seen from May
Although most of the rules came into effect in April, their full impact is expected by May:
- Less cashback will be reflected in the statement
- Reward points may not be used quickly
- Benefits will be available according to the expenditure
This means that users may now have to change their spending and card usage habits.
What users should do
If you use an SBI credit card, keep these things in mind:
- Use reward points strategically
- Understand the cashback categories
- Avoid unnecessary expenses
- Please read the new card terms and conditions.
Even small changes can have a big impact on your pocket.
Why were these changes made?
Banks and card companies change their rules from time to time.
The main reasons for this are:
- Controlling rising expenses
- Keeping the reward system balanced
- Improving the digital payment system
These changes are being seen across the credit card industry, not just within SBI.
The new SBI card rules will directly impact your benefits and spending. Simply having a card isn't enough; using it wisely is crucial.
If you understand the new rules and use your card, you can still reap its full benefits. However, if you don't pay attention, both your rewards and cashback could be reduced.
