In the semi-final match against South Africa, he achieved something no one has ever achieved in cricket history. Finn Allen's century, which came in just 33 balls, not only secured New Zealand's place in the final, but also became the fastest century in the T20 World Cup. He shattered Chris Gayle's 10-year-old record.
Finn Allen scored the fastest century in T20 World Cup history
In the first semi-final of the 2026 T20 World Cup, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, the African team scored 169 runs. In response, the Kiwis achieved the target of 170 runs in just 12.5 overs.
Finn Allen (Finn Allen Record Breaking T20 World Cup Century) created history by scoring an unbeaten 100 off just 33 balls. From the start of the innings, Finn Allen and Tim Seifert were seen batting aggressively and the African bowlers were in trouble. Finn hit his fifty in just 19 balls and thus became the fastest batsman to score a fifty in the T20 World Cup. He broke Glenn Phillips' record of making it in 22 balls.
Finn Allen then reached his century on the 33rd ball of his innings. This made him the fastest batsman to score a century in T20 World Cup history. This record was previously held by Chris Gayle, who scored the fastest century in 47 balls against England at the Wankhede Stadium in 2016.
