Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the political atmosphere in the state has heated up once again. While the controversy over an objectionable remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Mahagathbandhan’s Voter Rights Yatra is still fresh, another statement has stirred debate—this time from Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter, Rohini Acharya.
Responding to questions about who will be projected as the chief ministerial face of the Mahagathbandhan, Rohini gave an unusual analogy, saying, “When there is no talk of marriage right now, how can anyone know with whom the Suhagrat will be celebrated?” Her remark quickly went viral, drawing sharp criticism from the opposition.
The Voter Rights Yatra is currently being carried out across Bihar, with leaders of the Grand Alliance participating actively. The NDA has been questioning the coalition’s lack of clarity on its CM candidate. Rohini’s statement, however, has added fuel to the debate.
Interestingly, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav has for long been asserting himself as the CM face of the Mahagathbandhan, and political buzz suggests that Rahul Gandhi has also given his nod to this. The recent truce between Tejashwi Yadav and Pappu Yadav is seen as a step towards consolidating this understanding. Yet, Rohini’s comments have raised fresh questions within political circles.
Meanwhile, tensions on the ground are escalating. After the recent controversial remark on PM Modi in Patna, clashes broke out between BJP and Congress workers, leaving several injured. Police intervention was required to restore calm. With election season approaching, such exchanges are expected to further intensify Bihar’s already charged political climate.
