A tragic incident has been reported from Meerut, where a retired police inspector and his wife were found hanging inside their residence in the Ganganagar area. The discovery was made on Wednesday morning when the couple’s domestic help arrived for work, triggering panic in the neighbourhood.
The deceased have been identified as retired Inspector Lallu Singh and his wife, who were living in Rakshapuram under the Ganganagar police station limits. According to initial police findings, both bodies were found hanging from a ceiling fan inside the house. The doors of the house were reportedly open at the time of discovery.
The maid, Rekha, who worked at the couple’s home, said that she arrived at her usual time in the morning and entered the house to begin cleaning. “As soon as I went inside, I saw both of them hanging. I screamed and ran outside,” she told police. Her cries alerted neighbours, who immediately informed the authorities.
Police reached the spot soon after, secured the area, and sent both bodies for post-mortem examination. Officials said that, based on preliminary observations, the case is being treated as a suspected suicide, though all angles are being examined.
Sources said the couple’s two children are being questioned as part of the investigation to understand the circumstances that may have led to the incident. No suicide note has been reported so far.
The incident has cast a pall of shock over the locality, with neighbours describing the couple as quiet and reserved. Police stated that further clarity would emerge after the post-mortem reports and completion of the investigation.
