Keeping in mind the Republic Day parade and its rehearsal, Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory to impose traffic ban and diversion in many areas of Central Delhi.
Amid preparations for Republic Day 2026, traffic restrictions have been tightened in Delhi. In view of the Republic Day parade and its rehearsals, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory imposing traffic restrictions and diversions in several areas of Central Delhi. From January 19th to January 21st, due to parade rehearsals, traffic movement on several major roads will be affected from morning until afternoon. Therefore, if you are leaving for work, school, college, or any other important work, it is important to know traffic information. Let us now explain the traffic advisory issued by the Delhi Police and the necessary guidelines for metro, bus, and personal vehicles.
Traffic will be affected on these days and times
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, rehearsals for the Republic Day parade began on January 17th. There were no rehearsals on January 18th, but rehearsals will be held again on January 19th, 20th, and 21st. Several roads in Central Delhi will be affected during this period from approximately 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. The parade route will be from Vijay Chowk to India Gate, passing through Kartavya Path and ending at C-Hexagon. Consequently, traffic control and diversions will be implemented throughout this area.
Traffic will be closed or controlled at these intersections.
- Path of Duty - Rafi Marg
- Duty Path-Janpath
- Kartavya Path-Man Singh Road
- Duty Path- C-Hexagon
- Apart from this, the duty path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will remain completely closed.
Special arrangements for metro passengers
Special announcements will be made at metro stations for spectators attending the Republic Day parade. These announcements will inform ticket and pass holders of the correct metro station and route. This year, all the parade's seating enclosures are named after rivers, and necessary guidelines have been provided to passengers accordingly. Spectators seated in the southern section, with enclosures named Beas, Brahmaputra, Ganga, Ghaghra, Godavari, Indus, and Jhelum, have been advised to alight at Udyog Bhawan Metro Station. Spectators seated in the northern section, with enclosures named Kaveri, Kosi, Krishna, Narmada, Yamuna, Sutlej, and Teesta, have been advised to alight at Central Secretariat Metro Station.
QR code based parking system
For the convenience of spectators arriving by vehicle, a QR code-based parking system has been implemented this year. This system covers 22 designated parking spaces and can accommodate approximately 8,000 vehicles. By scanning the QR code printed on the parking pass, spectators will be able to receive real-time information about the nearest parking area to their seating area.
Delhi Police appeal for January 26
The Delhi Police has appealed to people to use the metro and public transport as much as possible on January 26th instead of private vehicles. They should also check traffic advisories before leaving home to avoid any problems during the Republic Day celebrations.
