For some time now, automobile customers have been concerned about whether E20 fuel can be safely used in vehicles certified for E10 fuel. Putting an end to these doubts, Renault India has issued an official clarification. The company stated that its cars, including the 2022 Triber, were originally tested and certified as per E10 standards that were applicable at the time.
Renault cited a joint study conducted by Indian Oil Corporation and the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), where durability testing was carried out using different fuel blends. A key focus of this study was to determine the impact of running E20 fuel in E10-certified vehicles. According to the draft report, which was later shared with automobile manufacturers by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, no adverse effects were found on existing on-road vehicles.
Based on these findings, Renault confirmed that its vehicles, though certified under E10 norms, can also operate on E20 fuel without any significant technical issues. This assurance is especially important as India aims to make E20 ethanol-blended petrol widely available across the country by 2025.
With this clarification, Renault has not only addressed the concerns of its customers but also reinforced support for the government’s green fuel initiative. Owners of older Renault models can now be assured that the shift to E20 fuel will not cause any harm to their vehicles.
