Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji once shared a startling story from the day she was born—one that sounds like the plot of a movie but actually happened in real life. According to the actress, a hospital mix-up shortly after her birth led to her being mistakenly placed with another family. Had her mother not recognised the error in time, Rani believes she could have grown up in a completely different household.

The actress revealed the incident during an earlier interview, leaving fans surprised by the incredible turn of events. She recalled that a simple mistake by hospital staff almost changed the course of her life forever.

A Hospital Error That Almost Changed Everything

Rani Mukerji was born on March 21, 1978, to filmmaker Ram Mukerji and Krishna Mukerji. Speaking about the incident, the actress said that after her birth she was accidentally taken to the room of a Punjabi family instead of being returned to her mother.

According to Rani, her mother immediately sensed that something was wrong when another baby was brought to her.

Recalling the incident, Rani shared that her mother looked at the baby and said, "This is not my daughter. My daughter has brown eyes. Please find my baby and bring her back." Her insistence prompted the hospital staff to search for the correct child.

Rani revealed that while the search was underway, she was discovered in the room of a Punjabi family that had also welcomed a baby girl. She joked that the incident has become a favourite family story over the years.

The actress said that even today, her family laughs about the episode and teases her by saying that she is actually Punjabi and accidentally became part of the Mukerji family because of the hospital mix-up.

According to Rani, newborn babies are usually taken away briefly after birth for medical examinations and identification procedures before being returned to their mothers. It was during this process that a nurse mistakenly exchanged the babies, leading to the confusion.

Fortunately, her mother's careful observation and refusal to accept the wrong baby ensured that the mistake was corrected before the families left the hospital.
