- 27 Aug, 2026
Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated across India, but investors planning to trade on Friday, August 28, 2026, don't need to worry about a market holiday. The Indian stock market will remain open on Raksha Bandhan, allowing investors to buy and sell shares as usual.
Trading activity on Dalal Street will continue according to the regular schedule, with no holiday announced for August 28.
NSE and BSE Will Remain Open
Both major Indian stock exchanges, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE), will operate normally on Friday.
Trading, clearing and settlement activities will continue as scheduled. This means investors can place their equity trades throughout the regular market session.
The commodity market will also remain operational. The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will conduct trading in both sessions, while NCDEX will also function normally.
Raksha Bandhan Is Not a Stock Market Holiday
Although Raksha Bandhan is an important festival, it is not included among the stock market holidays for 2026.
Therefore, investors who were expecting the market to remain closed on Friday can continue with their regular trading plans.
However, traders should always check the official exchange holiday calendar before making plans, particularly around major festivals when trading schedules can change.
When Will the Stock Market Close Next?
The Indian stock market has a total of 16 scheduled holidays in 2026. Several holidays have already passed during the year, including Good Friday, Ambedkar Jayanti, Maharashtra Day, Bakrid and Muharram.
The next scheduled market holiday after Raksha Bandhan is September 14, 2026, on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.
After that, investors can expect the following market holidays:
- October 2: Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti
- October 20: Dussehra
- November 10: Diwali-Balipratipada
- November 24: Guru Nanak Jayanti
- December 25: Christmas
What Should Investors Do?
For traders, the key point is simple: Friday, August 28, will be a normal trading day despite Raksha Bandhan.
Investors can therefore trade in equities as usual, while commodity-market participants can also continue their activities on MCX and NCDEX.
With several major festivals still remaining in 2026, keeping an eye on the exchange holiday calendar can help investors plan their trades, settlements and investment decisions accordingly.
