Passengers will be required to make digital payments for optional travel insurance of 45 paise when booking tickets. Passengers will not be able to pay the premium in cash. The Railway Board has directed all zonal railways to implement this system.

Until now, the facility to obtain insurance through digital payment was available to passengers booking tickets online. Now, the Railways has extended this facility to reservation counters as well. This step was taken by the Railways following a Supreme Court order.
