Everyone wants to save some money for the future. Therefore, people invest a portion of their salary. But this investment needs to be in the right place where you can earn high returns. Then, this Post Office scheme could be a great fit for you, as it can yield significant returns over 5 years.
Post Office Savings Schemes have always been useful for investors looking for guaranteed returns and safe investments. Like bank FDs, the Post Office Time Deposit (TD) scheme also offers investors guaranteed returns. For those who invest for the long term, this scheme can offer the opportunity to build substantial wealth.
Currently, the 5-year Post Office Time Deposit offers an interest rate of 7.5% per annum. This scheme offers the option to increase the invested amount after maturity. By using this feature correctly, investors can earn more than double the interest on the original amount.
Suppose you invest Rs 5 lakh in a 5-year Post Office FD, at an interest rate of 7.5%, it will earn Rs 2.25 lakh in interest over the first five years. Therefore, the total amount at maturity will be approximately Rs 7.25 lakh. After that, if the same deposit is extended for another 5 years, the total amount can reach Rs 10.51 lakh after a period of 10 years.
To further enhance the benefits of the scheme, if the deposit is extended for a third time, i.e., for another 5 years, the investor can receive a total of ₹15.24 lakh after 15 years. This translates to an interest earning of over ₹10 lakh. This means an investment of ₹5 lakh has the potential to triple.
According to Post Office regulations, 3- and 5-year time deposits can be extended within 18 months of maturity. Furthermore, you can register your extension request at the time of account opening. Currently, the annual interest rate on 1-year FDs is 6.90%, 2-year FDs are 7.00%, 3-year FDs are 7.10%, and 5-year FDs are 7.50%. Therefore, Post Office time deposits are considered the best option for long-term and safe investments.
