Farmers across India have received important news regarding the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31, with a total financial outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore.

The scheme provides direct financial assistance to eligible farmer families, helping them manage agricultural expenses and invest in farming activities.

What is PM-KISAN?

Under PM-KISAN, eligible landholding farmer families receive ₹6,000 every year. The amount is transferred directly into the beneficiary's bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

The money is generally provided in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each. The scheme was launched in February 2019 with the objective of providing income support to eligible farmers.

Scheme extended for the next five years

The latest Cabinet decision means the scheme will continue for another five-year period, from 2026-27 through 2030-31.

The government has approved ₹3.15 lakh crore for this period. The continuation is aimed at ensuring that eligible farmers continue receiving predictable financial assistance through the DBT system.

Farmers must complete these checks

Farmers should make sure their details are correctly updated to avoid problems while receiving instalments. Aadhaar linking with the bank account, land-seeding requirements and eKYC are among the important verification requirements for eligible beneficiaries.

If any of these details are incomplete or incorrect, farmers may face delays in receiving the benefit.

Why is the scheme useful?

The ₹6,000 annual assistance may help farmers meet some of their smaller agricultural expenses, including the purchase of seeds, fertilisers and other farming requirements.

Since the money is transferred directly into bank accounts, the system also reduces dependence on physical cash distribution and improves transparency in benefit delivery.

Farmers who are already receiving PM-KISAN benefits should regularly check whether their Aadhaar, bank account and land records are correctly linked. Completing eKYC and resolving any verification issue can help prevent interruptions in future instalments.
