In the pursuit of beauty, people often go to extremes — but one Russian cosmetologist has shocked both the public and scientists with an extraordinary claim. Her confession has stirred massive debate online.
According to a report by Oddity Central, the Russian woman revealed on a podcast that she underwent cosmetic eye-color surgery during her pregnancy. She believed that changing her own eye color to blue would cause her unborn child to have blue eyes as well.
Can surgery really change a child’s DNA?
Her bizarre argument was that this cosmetic alteration would somehow “rearrange” her baby’s DNA. While her claim went viral across social media, scientists have completely dismissed the idea.
Experts state clearly: a child’s genetic traits — including eye color — are fixed at conception and depend solely on the genes inherited from the parents.
What does science say?
Cosmetic surgeries, tattoos, or any physical alteration to the mother’s body during pregnancy have no influence on the child’s DNA. A baby’s eye color is determined by genetics and melanin levels, not by any cosmetic procedure performed during pregnancy.
Social media responds with jokes
As soon as the claim spread online, people responded with humor. One user joked, “I got laser hair removal before pregnancy so my kids would be born hairless.” Another wrote, “I learned German before giving birth so my children wouldn’t need to learn it later.”
These sarcastic replies highlighted how absurd people found the woman’s reasoning.
Is changing your own eye color possible?
Yes, but it comes with risk — and a high price tag. Currently, three procedures can alter eye color:
• Artificial iris implant surgery: inserting a synthetic iris under the cornea.
• Laser depigmentation: laser removes brown pigment, making the eyes look blue.
• Keratopigmentation (corneal tattooing): tattoo pigment is injected into the cornea.
