Now you can know 10 hours in advance whether your train ticket is confirmed; Railways introduces new rule

The Indian Railways is set to give major relief to train passengers. Under a new rule issued by the Railway Board, passengers will now be able to know up to 10 hours in advance whether their train ticket is confirmed or not.

Till now, the first reservation chart was prepared only 4 hours before the train’s departure, which often caused inconvenience, especially for passengers with waitlisted tickets. Many travelers faced last-minute uncertainty, making it difficult to plan their journey.

Reservation chart to be prepared earlier

According to the new order, the Railways has changed the timing for preparing the first reservation chart:

  • For trains departing between 5:01 AM and 2:00 PM
The first reservation chart will now be prepared by 8:00 PM on the previous day.

  • For trains departing between 2:01 PM and 11:59 PM, and
For trains running between 12:00 AM and 5:00 AM
The first reservation chart will be prepared at least 10 hours before departure.

What this means for passengers

  • Passengers will get early clarity on ticket confirmation

  • Reduced last-minute stress for waitlisted travelers

  • More time to plan travel to the station or make alternative arrangements

  • Improved convenience, especially for long-distance and overnight journeys

This new rule is expected to significantly improve the travel experience for millions of railway passengers across the country.
