The updated Tata Punch is all set to enter the market, and it could pose a serious challenge to Maruti in the budget SUV segment. Tata Motors is launching the facelifted version of the Punch on January 13, and the car has already started reaching dealerships. Spy images reveal noticeable changes in design, interior features, and engine options.
The Tata Punch has consistently been among Tata’s best-selling cars. With these upgrades, the company is aiming to strengthen its position further and attract more buyers.
1. Major design upgrade
The new Tata Punch gets significant styling changes at both the front and rear. It features a redesigned grille, updated headlamps and tail-lamps, and refreshed bumpers with a silver-finished skid plate. New colour options and redesigned alloy wheels add to its appeal. Overall, the facelift draws strong inspiration from the Tata Punch EV, giving it a more modern and aggressive look.
2. High-tech interior
The cabin of the new Punch has been upgraded with several premium features. It now comes with a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster, and a 360-degree camera. An electric sunroof is also part of the update, a first in this segment for Tata.
Additional features include wireless charging, connected car technology, auto-dimming IRVM, automatic climate control, and a Type-C charging port. These additions make the Punch far more tech-loaded than before.
3. New turbo-petrol engine
Along with the existing 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, Tata will introduce a new 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, making the Punch more powerful and responsive. Transmission options are expected to include a 5-speed manual, AMT, a 6-speed manual, and a 6-speed torque converter automatic, offering buyers more flexibility.
Expected price
The current Tata Punch is priced between ₹5.50 lakh and ₹9.30 lakh (ex-showroom). With the facelift, added features, and turbo-petrol engine, prices are likely to see a slight increase. The new Punch is expected to start at around ₹6 lakh, going up to approximately ₹9.50 lakh for the top variant.
