New Game-Changer in Compact SUV Segment? Mahindra May Launch Smaller SUV from Scorpio Family

Mahindra & Mahindra may soon introduce a new compact SUV that could be positioned below the popular Mahindra Scorpio lineup. The company showcased the Mahindra Vision S concept on Independence Day last year, hinting at a sub-4-metre SUV that might eventually become part of the Scorpio family.

Since then, a near-production version of the vehicle has been spotted testing several times on Indian roads. Recent spy images and digital renderings provide a clearer idea of what the upcoming SUV could look like.

Mahindra’s New Design Language

Render images of the Mahindra Vision S suggest that the production model will adopt Mahindra’s latest design language. The SUV is expected to feature a bold front profile, upright stance and modern styling, which could help it stand out in the competitive compact SUV segment.

If launched, the vehicle is likely to generate strong interest among buyers looking for a rugged SUV in a smaller size.

Exterior Styling Highlights

According to design renderings, the front of the SUV may include:

  • Mahindra’s signature grille with vertical slats

  • Round projector LED headlamps with dual-function DRLs

  • A large bumper with fog lamp assembly

  • Faux skid plates for a rugged appearance

On the side profile, the SUV is expected to feature heavy body cladding around the wheel arches, roof rails and a shark-fin antenna, maintaining the adventurous styling seen in the concept version.

Rear Design

At the rear, the compact SUV could come with:

  • Tailgate-mounted spare wheel

  • Inverted L-shaped LED tail lamps

  • Reverse lamps integrated into the bumper

  • Faux skid plates

The overall design is expected to retain the boxy and upright appearance of the concept model, although some adventure accessories seen in the concept may not appear in the production version.

Interior and Features

The interior of the production-ready Mahindra Vision S may keep several elements from the concept, including a functional centre console with physical buttons, conventional gear lever and prominent air-conditioning vents.

Expected interior highlights include:

  • Panoramic sunroof

  • Analog instrument cluster with a small MID display

  • Manual AC controls

  • Fabric seat upholstery

These details suggest that some variants may be positioned as entry-level or mid-range models within Mahindra’s lineup.

Expected Engine and Performance

Under the hood, the upcoming SUV is expected to borrow the 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine from the Mahindra XUV 3XO.

This engine currently produces around 117 bhp and 300 Nm of torque and is available with both manual and automatic transmission options. However, the exact power figures for the Vision S could vary once the production version is finalized.

Launch Expectations

While Mahindra & Mahindra has not yet announced an official launch timeline, the frequent test sightings suggest that development is progressing steadily.
