Nepal Minister Dismissed Within 15 Days Over Alleged Misuse of Power

Nepal’s leadership has taken swift action against a cabinet minister, removing him from office within just 15 days over allegations of misuse of authority.

According to official sources, Labor, Employment, and Social Security Minister Dip Kumar Shah was dismissed following recommendations from the ruling Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP). The decision came after party leadership raised concerns about his conduct.

Allegations of Favoritism
The controversy revolves around accusations that the minister used his position to influence the reappointment of his wife to the Health Insurance Board, even after her tenure had ended. Party leaders claimed this amounted to an abuse of power and a violation of ethical standards.

RSP chief Ravi Lamichhane reportedly recommended disciplinary action after the party’s internal review body examined the matter. Based on this recommendation, the Prime Minister approved the removal of the minister.

Official Action and Response
The Prime Minister’s Secretariat confirmed that the decision was taken after due consideration of the findings presented by the party’s disciplinary committee. Following the dismissal, the responsibility of the ministry has been reassigned temporarily.

Warning Issued to Another Minister
In a related development, Health and Population Minister Nisha Mehta was issued a formal warning. She was criticized for not responding adequately to the issue concerning the reappointment.
