RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said a big thing about retirement at 75 years. On the last day of the centenary year celebrations of RSS, he was asked whether one should leave politics at 75 years? In response to this, Mohan Bhagwat said that there is no need to retire at 75 years. Neither will I retire, nor will I ask anyone to retire. He said that we can work as long as we want.

He said that I had expressed this opinion citing Moropant ji's statement. I did not say that I will retire or someone else should retire. We are ready to retire at any time in life and for as long as the Sangh wants us to work, we are ready to work for the Sangh till that time.

Bhagwat quoted Moropant's statement

Bhagwat said that Moropant Pingle was so humorous that people would jump on their chairs on hearing his wit. Once in our program, we were all All India workers and he had completed his 70 years so he was presented a shawl and asked to say something. He stood up and said, 'You must be thinking that you have honoured me, but I know that when this shawl is given it means that you sit quietly on the chair and see what is happening. I never said that I will retire and will ask others to do the same.

'75 is not an age for congratulations, but for farewell'

In fact, a few days ago, Mohan Bhagwat had said that the age of 75 is not for congratulations but for farewell. Leaders should retire at the age of 75. The Sarsanghchalak had said this on July 9 during the release of the book 'Moropant Pingle: The Architect of Hindu Resurgence' based on the life of Sangh ideologue Moropant Pingle.

Bhagwat said that being draped with a shawl at the age of 75 means that one has grown old. Now others should be given a chance. His statement created a stir in political circles because both Mohan Bhagwat and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will turn 75 in September 2025. The Sangh chief's birthday is on September 11 and PM Modi's birthday is on September 17.
