Navratri 2025: During Navratri, devotees must follow certain rules to receive the blessings of Goddess Durga. Learn about the six things you should avoid during Navratri.
Navratri 2025: The time of Navratri is considered extremely sacred for devotees. During these nine days, the worship, fasting, and meditation of Goddess Durga hold special significance. It is believed that if devotees fast with complete devotion and following the correct rules, Goddess Durga's blessings remain with them. However, sometimes we unknowingly make mistakes that hamper the benefits of the fast and diminish the significance of the puja. Let's explore the things we should avoid during Navratri to ensure successful devotion and meditation.
Avoid onion and garlic
Satvik food is given utmost importance during Navratri. Onions and garlic are considered tamasic and cause mental disturbance. To maintain the sanctity of the fast, their consumption should be completely avoided.
Avoid negative talk and quarrels
It is crucial to maintain a pure and peaceful atmosphere during these sacred days. Negative talk or quarreling can diminish the Divine Mother's blessings. Therefore, an atmosphere of love, harmony, and peace should be maintained at home.
Do not consume meat and alcohol
During Navratri, the consumption of meat and alcohol is strictly prohibited during the worship of Goddess Durga. These pollute both the body and mind. Devotees should adopt a virtuous lifestyle during this time to worship the Goddess.
Avoid cutting hair or nails
Cutting hair or nails during Navratri is not considered auspicious. Doing so can violate the sanctity of the fast and diminish the effectiveness of the puja. Therefore, it is essential to observe simplicity and purity during these days.
Avoid sewing and embroidery
Any work involving needlework and thread is considered inauspicious during Navratri. Doing so diminishes the merits of the puja and is considered contrary to tradition. Therefore, sewing and embroidery should be avoided during these times.
Do not wear new clothes
There is no tradition of wearing new clothes during Navratri, but they are worn only after offering them to Goddess Durga on the Navami day. Offering them to the Goddess first and then wearing them is considered auspicious. Doing so bestows special blessings from Goddess Durga.
