A mosque was demolished on Tuesday in Piparia village under the Bhojipura police station area of Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district following an order of the Allahabad High Court. The district administration stated that the structure had been built illegally on government land.
According to officials, the mosque was constructed on approximately 300 square yards of land that is recorded in revenue documents as government-owned barren land (Category-5). The site, identified as Khata number 1474, had been under legal dispute for several years.
The demolition was carried out using bulldozers in the presence of senior administrative officials. Heavy security arrangements were made to prevent any untoward incident. Police personnel from multiple police stations, along with PAC forces, were deployed, effectively turning the area into a high-security zone. The operation was completed peacefully, and no protests or disturbances were reported.
Officials said the action was taken strictly in compliance with the High Court’s directions. The administration maintained that the demolition was not aimed at any particular community but was part of enforcement against illegal construction.
Sadar SDM Pramod Kumar said the legal proceedings in the matter began in 2008. The Tehsildar court had earlier passed eviction orders, which were subsequently challenged in a civil court. However, the civil court dismissed the plea, leaving no legal relief for the occupants.
“The land is recorded as government property, and the construction was unauthorised. The eviction order also included a penalty, which has already been deposited. After the court proceedings concluded, the administration proceeded with the demolition as per the High Court’s order,” the SDM said.
Authorities stated that the situation in the area remains normal and under close monitoring. The district administration also warned that similar action would be taken against any illegal construction found in the future, in accordance with the law.
