Adulteration of milk has become a common problem in today's market. From cities to villages, people everywhere are worried whether the milk they are drinking is real or fake. Since milk is used daily in every household and everyone, young and old, drinks it, it is very important for it to be pure. If there is adulteration in milk, it not only spoils the taste but can also cause serious harm to health. Let us know some easy home remedies, by which you can check the authenticity of milk at home without lab test.

Cream layer on boiling

If the milk is absolutely pure, then when it is boiled, a thick layer of cream forms on top. But in adulterated milk, either very little cream will be formed or it will not be formed at all. This is the easiest and oldest method by which our grandmothers also used to check the milk.

Water adulteration test

Pour some milk in a transparent glass and drop a drop of milk on top. If the drop goes straight down and settles leaving a white line, then the milk is pure. But if the drop spreads and starts flowing like water, then understand that it has water mixed in it.

Identify adulteration of detergent

If there is abnormally high foam in the milk, it may be a sign of detergent being added. To check this, mix equal amounts of milk and water and shake vigorously. If there is excessive foam and a soapy feel in the hand, then there is detergent in the milk, which is extremely dangerous for health.

How to check starch adulteration

Sometimes flour or starch is added to milk to make it look thick. To identify this, add a few drops of iodine to a spoonful of milk. If the colour turns blue, then starch is mixed in the milk.

Identify adulteration of urea

Urea is added to make milk thicker and creamier, but it is poisonous for health. To test, add some soybean powder and a few drops of hydrochloric acid to 5 ml of milk. If it turns red in a few minutes, then urea is mixed in the milk.

Identifying synthetic milk

Synthetic milk contains harmful elements like chemicals, detergents and urea. It smells like a mild chemical and tastes different from real milk. When boiled, cream does not settle in it and foam remains. When rubbed on the palm, it feels like soap.

After all why is pure milk necessary ?

Pure milk not only strengthens our bones and muscles, but also increases immunity. Whereas adulterated milk can have a bad effect on digestive problems, stomach infection, kidney and liver. Therefore, it is important for your health to check it before using it daily.
