The Ekana Cricket Stadium witnessed a pure batting masterclass during Match 50 of IPL 2026, as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opener Mitchell Marsh unleashed an absolute storm. In a rain-affected encounter, the Australian powerhouse took the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowlers to school, recording the fastest century in LSG history and leaving the opposition shell-shocked.
Despite RCB captain Rajat Patidar winning the toss and electing to field, the decision quickly turned into a nightmare as Marsh dominated from the very first ball.
A New Record: The Fastest Ton for LSG
Mitchell Marsh didn’t just score a hundred; he rewrote the record books with a display of raw power and clinical hitting.
-
The Milestone: Marsh reached the triple-figure mark in just 49 balls, making it the fastest-ever century by a Lucknow Super Giants player.
-
Breaking the Record: He surpassed the previous franchise record held by Rishabh Pant, who had scored a 54-ball century against the same opponents last season.
-
Boundary Blitz: Out of his magnificent total of 111 runs (56 balls), a staggering 90 runs came solely from boundaries. His innings was decorated with nine towering sixes and nine crisp fours.
Powerplay Dominance and Consistency
Marsh set the tone early, reaching his half-century within the powerplay overs itself. This performance also marked a personal milestone for the Aussie:
-
Two-Time Centurion: This is Marsh's second IPL century and his second for the Lucknow franchise, following his maiden ton last year.
-
Foreign Icon: He has now become the first overseas player to register two centuries for the Lucknow Super Giants.
RCB Bowlers Left Without Answers
From the opening over, Marsh maintained a relentless "stormy style" of batting. No RCB bowler was spared as he clobbered the ball to all parts of the ground. The aggression forced the visitors into defensive fields early on, but Marsh’s ability to clear the ropes at will meant no total was safe.
With Rishabh Pant adding a quick-fire 32 at the other end, LSG posted a mammoth total of 209/3 in their allotted 19 overs (reduced due to rain).
"Crunched, clobbered, and celebrated!" The IPL social media feed summed it up perfectly as Marsh's innings solidified his reputation as one of the most dangerous openers in the 2026 circuit.
