Manipur Attack: Two Assam Rifles Soldiers Martyred, Five Injured in Terrorist Ambush

Fresh violence has shaken Manipur, where terrorists carried out a deadly ambush on security forces in an AFSPA-free zone. On the evening of September 19, 2025, unidentified assailants targeted a convoy of the 33rd Assam Rifles traveling on National Highway-2 near Nambol Sabal Leikai.

The terrorists opened fire with automatic weapons under the cover of darkness, leaving two soldiers martyred—Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap. Five other soldiers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to RIMS Hospital in Imphal, where they are reported to be in stable condition.

Attack Raises Security Concerns

The ambush comes shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Manipur, where he assured peace and development for the state. The incident has now raised fresh concerns about the security situation in Manipur, especially in areas where AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act) has been lifted.

No Claim of Responsibility Yet

So far, no militant organization has claimed responsibility for the attack. Security forces have launched a massive search operation in and around the ambush site to track down the perpetrators.
