The Kurukshetra of the Mahabharata is not only a symbol of the valor of its warriors, but also a witness to many unsolved mysteries and divine events. One such fascinating incident involves the deadly arrows of Bhishma Pitamah, Lord Krishna, and his chief charioteer, Daruka.
Bhishma's arrows brought crisis to the battlefield.
During the Mahabharata war, the Kaurava commander, Grandfather Bhishma, was at his peak. Bhishma unleashed such a fierce barrage of arrows on the Pandava army that even the mighty Arjuna's chariot began to falter and his horses were injured. Even a great archer like Arjuna found it difficult to withstand Bhishma's arrows. Seeing this precarious situation on the battlefield, a wave of anxiety ran through the Pandava camp.
Who was Lord Krishna's charioteer, Daruka?
According to mythology, Daruka was Lord Krishna's personal and devoted charioteer. He looked after Lord Krishna's divine chariot and horses in Dwarka. According to folklore and legends, when Arjuna's chariot was in danger from Bhishma's attacks, Lord Krishna silently remembered his charioteer, Daruka. At that very moment, the power and support of the divine chariot appeared on the battlefield.
The Importance of Lord Krishna as a Guide
During the Mahabharata War, Lord Krishna vowed not to take up arms and instead accepted the role of Arjuna's charioteer. He not only controlled the chariot, but also boosted Arjuna's morale and guided him through difficult circumstances. By imparting the knowledge of the Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield and teaching him the lessons of dharma, karma, and duty, Lord Krishna was truly the mastermind of this dharma-yudh (righteous war).
