LPG Gas Cylinder: Will you lose access to cylinders after June 30th? What are the government's new guidelines? Learn more

Despite progress in peace talks between the US and Iran, tensions in the Gulf region show no signs of easing. Following these reports, the Indian government is taking several reform measures to ensure a smooth supply of LPG to consumers in the country. Meanwhile, numerous claims are circulating on social media that LPG connections will be cut after June 30th. People are panicking, fearing that they will not receive gas cylinder supplies after June 30th. If you're also confused, let me tell you that this isn't the case. This is just a rumor.

What is the truth?

The truth is, the government has proposed certain regulations regarding LPG and PNG connections to reduce dependence on LPG, eliminate supply disruptions, and prevent black marketing. This move comes at a time when the government and oil marketing companies (OMCs) are focusing on the "one household, one gas connection" policy.

What is the 30-day rule?

The government has implemented a rule that gives LPG users 30 days to deactivate their existing connection after purchasing a PNG connection. This rule applies to customers who have already purchased or are considering purchasing a PNG connection.

According to the new amendment (LPG Amendment Order 2026) issued by the government on May 25, 2026, you must surrender your old LPG cylinder within 30 days of getting a PNG connection at home. This rule applies to all major LPG companies, including Indane, HP Gas, and Bharat Gas. For example, if a customer gets a PNG connection on June 23, he or she must deactivate the LPG connection within 30 days, i.e., by July 23. If you fail to do so within 30 days, your LPG account will be blocked.

90 day’s time

This time period applies to those people whose area already has a PNG gas pipeline and all the infrastructure in place, but still uses LPG cylinders. In the March 2026 order, the government said that all such households have been given three months (90 days) to switch from LPG to PNG. In simple words, if your house is not getting PNG gas supply and you have not applied for it, then the 30-day or 90-day period does not apply to you, hence there is no question of your connection being disconnected.
