If you have a domestic LPG connection and receive your cylinder at the subsidised rate, there is an important update you should know before October 1, 2026. The government has made biometric Aadhaar authentication a requirement for booking subsidised domestic LPG refills at the regulated retail selling price.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, consumers who have already completed biometric Aadhaar authentication do not need to do anything again. As of September 19, around 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9% of the total, had completed the authentication process.

What changes from October 1?

From October 1, consumers who want to book domestic LPG refills at the regulated price with applicable subsidy will need to have completed biometric Aadhaar authentication.

The government says the measure is intended to ensure that subsidised LPG reaches genuine beneficiaries and to help prevent duplicate or ineligible connections and diversion of domestic cylinders for commercial use.

If your Aadhaar authentication has already been completed, you do not need to repeat the process.

How can you complete LPG Aadhaar authentication?

Consumers who have not completed the process can use several options.

1. Complete it during cylinder delivery

The delivery person can complete the biometric authentication at the time of LPG delivery using the oil marketing company's mobile application.

2. Visit your LPG distributor

You can also visit your LPG distributor's showroom and complete the authentication process there.

3. Complete it through the LPG company's app

Consumers can also complete the process from home using the relevant official mobile application:

• Indane customers: IndianOil ONE

• Bharatgas customers: HelloBPCL

• HP Gas customers: HP PAY

The government has also said that video tutorials explaining the self e-KYC process are available through the PMUY portal.

What if you do not want to complete Aadhaar authentication?

The government has clarified that consumers who are unwilling or unable to complete biometric Aadhaar authentication will still be able to receive LPG.

However, they will need to register their choice through the oil marketing company's available digital channels, such as its website, mobile app, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS.

In such cases, LPG will be supplied at the applicable market price without subsidy, subject to local availability and the company's applicable conditions.

Why has the government introduced this requirement?

The government says biometric Aadhaar authentication is intended to make the subsidised LPG system more targeted and transparent. It is also aimed at reducing duplicate and ineligible connections and preventing subsidised domestic cylinders from being diverted for commercial or industrial use.

The government has also been carrying out an extensive outreach campaign, including SMS and WhatsApp messages, distributor-level follow-ups and special authentication camps.

Don't wait until the last moment

With October 1 approaching, domestic LPG consumers who have not yet completed biometric Aadhaar authentication should complete the process through one of the available channels.
