Nowadays, everyone's lifestyle has become so busy that we don't even have time for ourselves. One problem we consistently ignore is lack of sleep. Due to increased mobile phone use, work stress, and staying up late, many people are unable to get enough sleep. However, doctors say that its side effects are not just manifested in fatigue, but also affect the body and brain.
Dr. Madhukar Bhardwaj, Director and Head of the Department of Neurology at Aakash Healthcare, provides detailed information on this issue. He explains the effects of insufficient sleep.
The brain is directly affected
by lack of sleep. Doctors say that lack of sleep reduces your ability to concentrate. Memory and thinking power are also impaired.
Effect on mood
When sleep is less, it has a direct effect on your mood. In such a situation, a person starts feeling irritable and stressed. If there is lack of sleep for a long time, then the risk of depression can also increase. Possibility of weakening of immune system
If you do not get complete sleep, then the immune system of the body starts weakening. This causes problems like cold and cough. The body repairs itself during sleep. But, if sleep is not complete, then this process does not happen properly and hence the immune system is not able to function properly.

Lack of sleep can affect your body's metabolism. This can increase the activity of hunger hormones, leading to overeating. Consequently, there's a risk of weight gain.
It also affects heart health.
Experts say that people who sleep less are at higher risk of heart disease and heart attacks. Therefore, you should avoid sleeping less.
