Kia is preparing to expand its popular Seltos lineup with a hybrid variant, marking a significant step in its electrification strategy. While the second-generation Seltos has already been introduced in India, the hybrid version is expected to arrive in the coming years, with reports suggesting a possible launch around 2027.
Globally, the next-generation Seltos is likely to debut in the United States by mid-2026, followed by the introduction of its hybrid version later that year. This timeline indicates that the first official glimpse of the Seltos Hybrid could emerge by the end of 2026.
Hybrid Powertrain: What to Expect
Internationally, the Seltos Hybrid is expected to feature a 1.6-liter petrol-hybrid engine, similar to the one used in the Kia Niro. This setup produces around 141 PS of power and 264 Nm of torque and is paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission along with an all-wheel-drive system.
For the Indian market, Kia is likely to adopt a more localized approach. The hybrid Seltos could feature a 1.5-liter petrol engine combined with one or more electric motors and a battery pack. Many components, including the battery and motor, are expected to be manufactured locally, which may help in keeping costs competitive.
Competition in the Hybrid SUV Segment
Once launched, the Kia Seltos Hybrid will enter a rapidly growing segment of hybrid SUVs in India. It is expected to compete directly with models such as the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota’s hybrid SUVs, and the upcoming hybrid variants of the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.
With rising fuel prices and increasing demand for eco-friendly mobility, hybrid SUVs are gaining popularity among Indian buyers. Kia’s entry into this space could further intensify competition and provide more options to consumers.
Future Plans: A 7-Seater Hybrid SUV
In addition to the Seltos Hybrid, Kia is reportedly working on a three-row SUV for India, inspired by the global Kia Sorento. This upcoming model is expected to feature a 1.5-liter petrol-hybrid engine and share several design and feature elements with the international version.
The new 7-seater SUV is likely to offer a strong road presence, spacious interiors, and advanced features, catering to families looking for a premium and practical vehicle.
