Janakpuri Road Accident: Contractor Arrested for Negligence in Death of 26-Year-Old

Delhi Police on Friday made the first arrest in connection with the death of 26-year-old Kamal, who died after falling into an uncovered pit in West Delhi’s Janakpuri area. Sub-contractor Rajesh Prajapati has been taken into custody for alleged criminal negligence.

According to the police investigation, Kamal fell into a deep ditch along with his motorcycle late at night. A family passing through the area reportedly witnessed the accident and immediately alerted nearby security guards and a man residing in a tent close to the site. The man was later identified as an employee of the sub-contractor responsible for the work at the location.

Police said the employee informed Rajesh Prajapati, who subsequently arrived at the site during the night. Investigators revealed that Prajapati saw the motorcycle and the injured Kamal lying in the ditch but neither informed the police nor arranged medical assistance. Instead, he allegedly returned home without taking any action.

Officials stated that timely medical help could have saved Kamal’s life.

Meanwhile, Kamal’s father, Naresh Dhyani, and other family members searched for him throughout the night. In a tragic coincidence, the father reportedly passed the accident spot several times but failed to notice the ditch due to the absence of barricades, warning signs, or adequate lighting. Kamal’s body was recovered around 8 a.m. on Friday after a local woman alerted authorities.

Following the incident, the Delhi government initiated administrative action. After a site inspection by the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, three officials, including a junior engineer, were suspended for negligence. Police sources said further action may be taken against officials of the Delhi Jal Board and other departments as the investigation progresses.

Delhi Police said the probe is ongoing and responsibility will be fixed after examining all aspects related to safety lapses and accountability.
