Kia has revealed its smallest and most affordable electric SUV so far, the Kia EV2. Positioned in the B-segment, the EV2 is Kia’s sixth electric vehicle and is aimed at expanding the brand’s EV footprint by making electric mobility more accessible. With its size, features, and expected pricing, the EV2 is being seen as a potential game-changer for markets like India—and a strong rival to entry-level EVs such as MG Windsor.
While Kia hasn’t officially confirmed an India launch yet, industry expectations point to 2026 as a likely timeline, given the rising demand for compact electric SUVs in the country. Notably, the EV2’s cabin shares several elements with the Kia Syros, which is already on sale in India.
Why the Kia EV2 could work in India
Indian buyers prefer compact SUVs that are city-friendly and budget-conscious. If Kia localises production and prices the EV2 competitively, it could quickly find traction. Its compact footprint, modern tech, and practical range make it well-suited for daily urban use.
Battery options and performance
The Kia EV2 is expected to come with two battery pack options:
-
42.2 kWh battery with a claimed range of about 317 km
-
61 kWh battery with a claimed range of around 448 km
The standard-range version uses a front-mounted motor producing 145 bhp, while the long-range version delivers 134 bhp. The EV2 is based on a 400V architecture and supports fast charging—10% to 80% in around 30 minutes with a DC fast charger. It also supports 11 kW and 22 kW AC charging.
Compact design, city-friendly proportions
Designed for urban environments, the EV2 measures 4,060 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and has a 2,565 mm wheelbase. Styling cues include Kia’s signature LED lighting, a clean and upright stance, and alloy wheels ranging from 16 to 19 inches. A GT-Line variant is also expected, offering sportier design elements.
Interior: Familiar and tech-forward
Inside, the EV2 feels very similar to the Kia Syros. The dashboard houses three digital displays:
-
12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
-
5.3-inch climate control screen
-
12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system
Kia’s latest infotainment software supports OTA (over-the-air) updates, helping keep costs down while staying future-ready. Physical buttons on the steering wheel and centre console ensure ease of use alongside the digital interface.
