IPL 2026: BCCI Introduces Strict Dress Code, Players to Face Fines for Rule Violations

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rolled out several new regulations ahead of IPL 2026, including a surprising rule related to players’ clothing. The new guidelines aim to bring more discipline and uniformity, covering not only training and match practices but also how players present themselves after games.

According to the new rules, players will not be allowed to wear sleeveless T-shirts or “floppies” (casual slippers) during post-match presentations. Traditionally, players often switch to more relaxed attire such as sleeveless shirts, shorts, and slippers after matches. However, this practice will now be restricted. If a player violates the dress code, they will first receive a warning, and repeated offenses may lead to a deduction from their match fees.

In addition to the dress code, the BCCI has implemented several other strict measures for IPL 2026. Teams will not be permitted to hold practice sessions on match days, although light warm-ups will still be allowed. Each team can play a maximum of two practice matches, and sharing practice nets with other teams has been prohibited.

Further, home teams will not be allowed to train on the main pitch for four days leading up to a match, and separate practice pitches will be provided. Restrictions have also been placed on player movement, with limitations on traveling with family and friends during the tournament. Additionally, players have been advised to avoid sitting near LED advertising boards.

These new rules reflect the BCCI’s effort to maintain professionalism, ensure fair play, and streamline operations during the tournament. Players and teams will now need to strictly adhere to these guidelines to avoid penalties during IPL 2026.
