India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup: “I Wish I Had the Decision on Pakistan,” Says Suryakumar Yadav

Ahead of the start of the 2026 T20 World Cup, Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has addressed the uncertainty surrounding the much-anticipated India–Pakistan clash, stating that decisions regarding Pakistan’s participation are beyond his control.

Speaking to the media, Suryakumar confirmed that India is scheduled to travel to Colombo for its fixture against Pakistan. Commenting on speculation that Pakistan may opt out of the match, he said, “Their decision is not in my control, I wish it was. We have been told to play, and there is a fixture. If we are asked to play, we will play.”

“We are ready to play Pakistan”

The Indian skipper emphasised that his team remains fully prepared should the match go ahead. Recalling India’s recent record against Pakistan, Suryakumar noted that India faced Pakistan three times during the Asia Cup and delivered strong performances on each occasion.

“We played Pakistan three times in the Asia Cup and played really good cricket. If we get the opportunity again, we will try to do well. If the fixture is confirmed, we will definitely go and play,” he said.

Pakistan Government’s Stand

Meanwhile, the uncertainty has been fuelled by a political statement from Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who has defended the decision to boycott the match against India. Sharif stated that Pakistan’s stance is rooted in solidarity with Bangladesh and stressed that politics should not influence sporting events.

“We have taken a very clear stand regarding the T20 World Cup. We will not play against India. We stand completely with Bangladesh, and we believe this is the right decision,” Sharif said.

As things stand, the fixture remains officially listed, with India maintaining its readiness to play. The final call now rests with tournament organisers and the Pakistan Cricket Board, amid growing anticipation and diplomatic tension surrounding one of cricket’s biggest rivalries.
