IND vs NZ: Bumrah and Hardik May Skip ODI Series, Here’s the Update

The Indian cricket team is set to face New Zealand in a three-match ODI series in January 2026. The squad announcement is expected soon, with reports suggesting that star all-rounder Hardik Pandya and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah may be rested for the series.

Series Schedule

The series will kick off on 11 January in Vadodara, followed by the second ODI on 14 January in Rajkot, and the final match on 18 January in Indore. This series is considered crucial for both teams as they prepare for upcoming international tournaments.

Rest for Bumrah and Hardik

According to reports, selectors may choose to rest both Bumrah and Pandya from the ODIs to manage their workload effectively. Both players are fully fit, but given the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand and preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026, this decision ensures they remain key players for India’s T20I squad.

Last ODI Appearances

  • Hardik Pandya last played an ODI on 9 March 2025 against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy final held in Dubai.

  • Jasprit Bumrah last appeared in an ODI during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Hardik to Feature in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Reports suggest that Hardik Pandya will return to domestic cricket, playing for Baroda in the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy. As per BCCI rules, all Indian players are expected to participate in domestic competitions. Hardik is likely to play in two of Baroda’s last three league matches, with the team captained by his elder brother Krunal Pandya.

This strategic resting of key players allows India to maintain their strength in T20Is while giving top players like Hardik and Bumrah a chance to manage fitness and workload ahead of major tournaments.
