India’s Under-19 team began their tour of Australia with a thumping win in the first Youth Test at Brisbane, defeating the hosts by an innings and 58 runs. The star of the show was explosive opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who not only smashed a whirlwind century but also broke the world record for most sixes hit in a Youth Test match.
Suryavanshi’s Record-Breaking Century
Batting in India’s first innings after Australia U19 managed 243 runs, Suryavanshi played a blazing knock of 113 runs off just 86 balls. His innings featured 15 sixes — the most ever in an Under-19 Test — and 9 fours, reaching his hundred in only 78 balls. He thus surpassed England’s George Bartlett, who had previously held the record with 13 sixes in a Youth Test.
Suryavanshi also broke the Indian record for most sixes in a Youth Test innings, overtaking Harvansh Pangalia’s tally of 6. His power-hitting left the Australian bowlers shell-shocked and set the foundation for India’s massive total.
Partnership with Vedant Trivedi
While Suryavanshi played the aggressor, Vedant Trivedi anchored the innings with a composed 140 off 192 balls. Their contrasting centuries guided India U19 to a commanding 428 in the first innings, giving them a massive 185-run lead.
Australia Collapse in Second Innings
Chasing the deficit, Australia’s batting faltered once again. They were bundled out for just 127 in their second innings, handing India victory by an innings and 58 runs.
