IMD Weather Alert: Rain, Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Likely Across Several States Including Delhi-NCR

Weather conditions across India are witnessing rapid changes, with unusual heat in many regions during March itself. While northern and central parts of the country are experiencing rising temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued alerts for rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in several states.

Rain and Snowfall Expected in Hilly Regions
According to IMD forecasts, the higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to receive heavy rainfall and snowfall over the next 48 hours. These regions may also witness thunderstorms and gusty winds, which often influence weather patterns in the adjoining plains.

Alert for Plains Including Delhi-NCR
Due to the impact of western disturbances, weather conditions may deteriorate in the plains, including Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. IMD has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and possible hailstorms in these areas. Wind speeds are expected to range between 40 and 50 km/h, which could disrupt normal activities.

Eastern and Northeastern States on Alert
States such as Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand are likely to experience strong storms and heavy rainfall between March 24 and March 28. Wind speeds in these regions may also reach up to 50 km/h. Meanwhile, parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya have been issued heavy rainfall alerts, particularly on March 24 and again between March 27–28.

Impact in Rajasthan
In Rajasthan, including Jaipur, the influence of active western disturbances is already visible. Light rainfall has been recorded in several areas over the past 24 hours. Cloud cover and cool winds are expected to bring a temporary dip in temperatures, offering some relief from the ongoing heat. Light drizzle may continue in parts of the state.

Changing Weather Patterns Across Regions
Meteorologists attribute these fluctuations to three consecutive active western disturbances affecting northwest to northeast India. As a result, scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are likely to persist in many parts of northwestern India throughout the week.

Different Scenario in South and West India
In contrast, regions such as Konkan and Kerala are expected to experience hot and humid weather conditions around March 25. No significant rainfall activity is forecast for these areas in the immediate term.

Advisory for Residents
With multiple weather systems active across the country, residents are advised to stay updated with local forecasts, take precautions during thunderstorms, and avoid open areas during lightning activity.
