IMD Weather Alert: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Forecast Across 22+ States Till July 4; Check Region-Wise Update

IMD Heavy Rain Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across several parts of the country over the coming days. More than 22 states are expected to experience heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds as the southwest monsoon advances further into northern and central India. Here's a detailed region-wise weather outlook till July 4.

Monsoon Gains Momentum Across India

The southwest monsoon continues to strengthen its grip over the country, bringing widespread rainfall to several regions. According to the latest IMD bulletin, the monsoon is expected to advance further into Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and parts of Rajasthan over the next few days.

As the monsoon progresses, several states are likely to witness moderate to heavy rainfall, while a few regions may experience extremely heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal on High Alert

The IMD has issued one of its highest rainfall warnings for parts of Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.

Assam and Meghalaya

  • June 28: Heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy showers.

  • June 29-30: Very heavy rainfall likely.

  • July 1-3: Heavy rainfall expected at several places.

Arunachal Pradesh

  • June 28: Extremely heavy rainfall possible in isolated locations.

  • June 29: Very heavy rainfall forecast.

  • June 30 to July 2: Heavy rainfall likely.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim

  • June 28-29: Red alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in some areas.

  • June 30: Very heavy rainfall expected.

  • July 1: Heavy rainfall likely.

North India to Receive Widespread Rainfall

Several north Indian states are also expected to experience increasing rainfall activity.

Uttar Pradesh

  • Heavy rainfall likely on June 30 and July 1.

  • Widespread rainfall expected from July 1 to July 3 in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

  • Western Uttar Pradesh may receive widespread showers on July 2.

  • Strong winds with speeds of 40-50 km/h may affect various parts of the state between June 28 and July 4.

Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh

  • Light to scattered rainfall expected on June 28-29 and July 1-2.

  • More widespread rainfall is likely on July 3 and July 4.

  • Heavy rain may occur in parts of Punjab and Haryana between July 2 and July 3.

Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh

  • Uttarakhand: Widespread rainfall from June 29 to July 4, with heavy rain expected between June 30 and July 4.

  • Himachal Pradesh: Widespread rainfall from July 2 to July 4, including heavy showers from July 1 onward.

  • Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh: Rainfall likely from June 30 to July 4, with heavy rain expected on July 2 and 3. Hailstorms may also occur in isolated places on June 30.

Rajasthan

  • Eastern Rajasthan is likely to receive heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms between July 2 and July 4.

Heavy Rain Forecast for Eastern and Central India

Bihar

  • Heavy rainfall expected on June 28 and 29.

  • Very heavy rainfall may occur on June 30 and July 1.

  • Heavy showers may continue on July 2.

Odisha

  • Heavy rainfall forecast on June 28-29 and again from July 2 to July 4.

  • Very heavy rainfall is possible on June 30 and July 1.

Jharkhand

  • Heavy rainfall likely on June 30 and July 1.

Gangetic West Bengal

  • Heavy rainfall expected on July 1 and again between July 3 and July 4.

Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh

  • Central Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha may witness widespread rainfall throughout the forecast period.

  • Western Madhya Pradesh could receive very heavy rainfall on July 2 and 3.

  • Eastern Madhya Pradesh may experience similar conditions from July 1 to July 3.

Western and Southern States to See Intense Monsoon Activity

Konkan and Goa

Continuous rainfall is expected between June 28 and July 4, with heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast on June 28 and again from July 1 to July 4.

Maharashtra

  • Very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of central Maharashtra between July 2 and July 4.

Gujarat

  • Heavy rainfall may occur from July 2 to July 4.

Kerala

  • Very heavy rainfall is forecast in isolated areas from June 28 to July 1.

  • Heavy rainfall is expected to continue between July 2 and July 4.

Karnataka

  • Coastal Karnataka may receive widespread rainfall throughout the forecast period, with very heavy rain likely on July 1 and 2.

  • South Interior Karnataka could witness very heavy rainfall on June 30 and July 1.

Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

  • Telangana is likely to experience heavy rainfall between June 28 and July 4.

  • Coastal Andhra Pradesh may receive heavy rain on June 28-29 and again from July 1 to July 4.

Heatwave Conditions May Persist in Parts of Uttar Pradesh

Despite the advancing monsoon, the IMD has warned that parts of Uttar Pradesh may continue to experience heatwave to severe heatwave conditions for the next couple of days.

The department has also cautioned that lightning activity may remain intense across parts of central and eastern India over the next two to three days. Residents in affected regions are advised to follow official weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel during severe storms, and take appropriate safety precautions during periods of heavy rainfall and lightning.
