Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has shared an interesting insight into his personal habits and his relationship with former captain MS Dhoni, while also offering a bold prediction on India’s chances in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Pant, often regarded as Dhoni’s protégé, has repeatedly spoken about the former skipper’s influence on his career. Whenever faced with difficult phases, Pant is known to visit Dhoni at his Ranchi residence. Yet, despite this close bond, Pant revealed that he rarely communicates with Dhoni over the phone.
“I Don’t Call Him at All”
Speaking in an exclusive interview with a news channel, Pant was asked whether Dhoni responds to calls or messages. In reply, Pant said, “I don’t call him at all. I use my phone very sparingly. I learned this habit from Dhoni.”
Pant explained that he prefers staying away from his phone and focusing on the present moment. Dhoni, too, is famously known for being difficult to reach, often avoiding calls and limiting his interaction with mobile devices.
Pant’s Big Prediction for T20 World Cup 2026
Pant also spoke at length about India’s prospects in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Expressing strong confidence in the team, he said there is a “90 per cent chance” that India could successfully defend its title.
However, Pant cautioned against underestimating other sides. According to him, India, Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan are the four teams most likely to reach the semi-finals. He particularly highlighted Afghanistan as a dangerous side in the T20 format, noting their consistent improvement in recent years.
Misses Out Due to Fitness
Pant was a key member of India’s title-winning campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup, but he is not part of the 2026 squad due to fitness issues. In his absence, Ishan Kishan, who has been in strong form in the shortest format, has been included in the team.
