Hyundai is gearing up for a major transformation in India as it prepares to enter the hybrid segment and expand its SUV lineup aggressively. With plans to launch 26 new models over the next five years, the company is clearly aiming to strengthen its position in one of the fastest-growing auto markets.
A key highlight of this strategy is Hyundai’s entry into hybrid SUVs, starting from 2027. The first model expected to get hybrid technology is the next-generation Hyundai Creta, which will mark Hyundai’s debut in India’s hybrid space. This move is expected to directly compete with already popular hybrid offerings in the market.
Following the Creta Hybrid, Hyundai is planning two more 7-seater SUVs. One of them is the upcoming Ni1i (codename), which will be positioned between the Hyundai Alcazar and the Hyundai Tucson. This model is expected to target family SUV buyers and compete with cars like the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus. Reports suggest it could be based on the long-wheelbase Tucson platform and may feature a 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid setup for better efficiency.
At the top end, Hyundai is also planning to bring its global flagship SUV, the Hyundai Palisade, to India. Known for its premium appeal, the Palisade will likely come with a powerful 2.5-litre turbo petrol engine and offer both 7- and 8-seater configurations. It is expected to deliver a strong balance of performance and long-distance efficiency, making it a serious contender in the premium SUV segment.
This hybrid push shows Hyundai’s focus on fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and future-ready technology. With rising fuel costs and increasing demand for eco-friendly vehicles, hybrid SUVs could become a key growth driver in India.
Overall, Hyundai’s upcoming lineup signals a major shift—not just in product strategy but also in how the company plans to compete with rivals in the evolving SUV and hybrid market.
