Hyundai Partners with TVS to Enter India’s Electric Three-Wheeler Market

In a significant move to tap into India’s fast-growing EV segment, Hyundai Motor Company has partnered with TVS Motor Company to develop a new electric three-wheeler (E3W) tailored for the Indian market. The two companies have signed a joint development agreement, marking Hyundai’s entry into the electric rickshaw space.

The collaboration builds on a prototype that was first showcased at the India Mobility Global Expo 2025. The concept vehicle highlighted a range of features designed specifically for Indian conditions, signaling that both companies are focused on creating a practical and scalable mobility solution.

Under this partnership, Hyundai will take charge of the vehicle’s design, including styling and overall product concept, while TVS will handle engineering development using its expertise in electric platforms and three-wheelers. TVS will also be responsible for manufacturing and selling the vehicle in India, with potential plans to expand into global markets in the future.

The upcoming electric three-wheeler is expected to be customized for Indian roads and climate. Features like adjustable ground clearance for uneven terrain, improved thermal management for high temperatures, and flexible interior layouts for both passenger and cargo use are likely to be key highlights.

Both companies are also emphasizing a strong “Make in India” approach, aiming to localize production and sourcing as much as possible. This strategy is expected to reduce costs, strengthen the supply chain, and improve after-sales service.

With this partnership, Hyundai is looking to expand its footprint beyond traditional passenger vehicles, while TVS strengthens its position in the electric mobility space. The first model from this collaboration is expected to launch in India soon, potentially accelerating the adoption of electric three-wheelers across the country.
