Heart attack symptoms: Sudden chest pain while sleeping at night? Don't ignore it, it could be dangerous

Do you suddenly wake up at night with sharp chest pain? If you're experiencing this problem, don't ignore it. Many people dismiss such pain as gas, acidity, or fatigue. However, experts say these symptoms can sometimes be signs of a serious illness or even a heart attack.

Whether chest pain occurs during the day or at night, or is frequent or severe, it's important to get it checked out. Waking up from pain, in particular, is considered a warning from the body.

Dr. Pramod Kumar, a cardiologist at New Fortis Hospital, explains the possible causes of chest pain at night. According to him, sometimes these causes can be simple, but sometimes they can be life-threatening.

Angina
is a condition in which the arteries that supply blood to the heart become narrowed. This prevents the heart muscle from getting enough oxygen, causing a feeling of pressure in the chest. This pain can occur even while resting or sleeping, and it increases the risk of a heart attack.

Acid
reflux can also be a contributing factor. When you sleep or lie down, stomach acid builds up, causing a burning sensation or pressure in the chest. If this problem persists for more than two to three days, it's important to consult a doctor.

High blood pressure
chest pain can also be caused by high blood pressure and lung diseases. If your blood pressure suddenly rises significantly, you may experience sharp chest pain. Similarly, conditions like pleurisy can cause a stabbing pain in the chest when breathing.

According to experts, if certain symptoms appear, it could be a sign of a heart attack. Severe or stabbing chest pain, sudden nausea, cold sweats, difficulty breathing when lying down, dizziness or fainting, and an irregular heartbeat can all be warning signs.
