“He Sounds More Pakistani Than Indian”: Kangana Ranaut Targets Zohran Mamdani After NYC Mayoral Primary Win

Actor-turned-BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has launched a sharp attack on Zohran Mamdani, the Indian-origin American politician who recently won the primary election for New York City Mayor. Ranaut's comments have triggered fresh controversy online, especially over her remarks about Mamdani’s identity.

Kangana Ranaut Questions Mamdani’s “Indian Identity”

In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Kangana wrote:

“His mother is Mira Nair, one of our best filmmakers, Padma Shri awardee, a celebrated daughter of Bharat. She married Mehmood Mamdani (of Gujarati origin), a renowned author. And obviously, the son is named Zohran… he sounds more Pakistani than Indian.”

She added that Mamdani now seems “ready to wipe out Hinduism” and questioned his roots following a viral video that allegedly showed Mamdani participating in an anti-India protest at New York’s Times Square.

Video Sparks Reaction

Kangana’s comments were triggered by an unverified video showing Mamdani allegedly protesting against Indian policies. In the video, slogans and placards were reportedly critical of the Indian government. Ranaut reposted it saying:

“Whatever happened to his Hindu identity or bulldlight (a slang possibly referencing anti-Hindu bias), now he’s ready to erase Hinduism... same story everywhere.”

Congress Leader Singhvi Joins In

Not just Ranaut, Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi—known for his legal acumen and sharp commentary—also slammed Mamdani. In a barbed post, Singhvi wrote:

“When Zohran Mamdani opens his mouth, Pakistan’s PR team takes the day off. India doesn’t need enemies with ‘allies’ like him shouting fiction from New York.”
