Even after 79 years of independence, many women in India are still on the path toward financial freedom. Moving beyond traditional saving habits, HDFC Mutual Fund has launched the fifth edition of its flagship campaign ‘Barni Se Azadi’ to emphasize the importance of investing wisely to achieve true financial independence.
According to Navneet Munot, MD and CEO of HDFC AMC, this campaign has evolved into a social movement aimed at empowering women to think beyond just saving and focus on growing their wealth through smart investments.
Inspirational Stories of Change
In a special program by Money9Live, three women shared inspiring stories of breaking old financial mindsets and leading others towards economic empowerment:
-
Rimjhim Saikia, MD of Tatvik Ayurveda, left a corporate career to start a business where 90% of the workforce are women.
-
Disha Garg, founder of Disha Clothing and an NIFT graduate, transitioned from being a housewife to launching her own boutique after a decade.
-
Pratibha Sharma, founder of 11:11 Slimming World, credits her saving habits to her mother and has positively impacted over 1,000 clients.
Changing Face of Indian Women
Navneet Munot highlighted the transformation in women’s mindset over the last 30-35 years. Today’s women harbor bigger ambitions and are learning to invest instead of just stashing money away. This trend is visible not only in cities but also in rural areas.
Investment: The Key to Real Freedom
Munot emphasized the importance of financial literacy and seeking advice from qualified financial advisors. He recommended systematic investment plans (SIPs) as an accessible way to start investing with small amounts. Patience, smart choices, and long-term commitment are crucial—qualities that many women inherently possess.
A Call to Move Beyond Saving
The campaign’s key message is that saving money alone isn’t enough; growing that money through investment is essential for true financial freedom. Munot stated, “The real value lies in how much your money makes more money.”
