Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has landed in controversy just days after India national cricket team won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. A police complaint has reportedly been filed against the cricketer in Pune, alleging disrespect towards the national flag during the team’s victory celebrations.
India recently secured the T20 World Cup title by defeating New Zealand national cricket team in the final played in Ahmedabad, marking a record third triumph in the tournament.
Complaint Filed in Pune
According to reports, a complaint has been submitted at Shivajinagar Police Station in Pune by a local advocate, Wajid Khan.
The complainant alleged that Hardik Pandya disrespected the Flag of India during post-match celebrations after the final. In the complaint, it was claimed that Pandya was seen lying on a stage with the national flag wrapped around him while celebrating with his girlfriend Mahikaa Sharma.
Demand for Legal Action
The advocate has requested that authorities register an FIR against the cricketer, stating that every citizen has a duty to respect the national flag and that the alleged act should be investigated.
However, police officials have clarified that no FIR has been registered yet. They confirmed that the complaint has been received and that the matter is currently under review.
What Happened During the Celebration?
The incident reportedly took place after the trophy presentation ceremony. Players of the India national cricket team were celebrating their victory on the field with family members and close friends.
During the celebrations, Hardik Pandya was seen spending time with Mahikaa Sharma. The two were photographed hugging, dancing, and celebrating with teammates. At one point, they were seen sitting on the trophy podium where Pandya had the Flag of India draped around his shoulders, and they briefly lay down on the stage together.
Police Yet to Take Further Action
Authorities have stated that they will review the complaint and decide whether further legal steps are necessary. For now, the matter remains under examination by the local police in Pune.
