Groom Waited, but the Bride Never Came: Wedding Called Off Over Transport Fare Dispute

Shahjahanpur, UP – A wedding in Shahjahanpur turned into an unexpected drama late Monday night when a dispute over transport fare between the bride’s and groom’s families led to the cancellation of the marriage. The bride’s mother refused to send her daughter from Lucknow after the groom’s father declined to pay the transport cost. The matter escalated to a local police station and now an FIR is likely to be filed in Lucknow.

All Set for the Wedding, But Disappointment Took Over

The groom, a resident of Khutar in Shahjahanpur, was all set to marry a young woman from Lucknow. The marriage ceremony was scheduled for Monday night, with the bride’s family expected to arrive at a decorated marriage lawn in Shahjahanpur. Preparations were complete—guests had gathered, the groom was dressed and ready, and the venue was lit up for the big event. But what followed was completely unexpected.

Transport Fare Sparks Big Trouble

A vehicle carrying the bride’s dowry and belongings had reached Shahjahanpur earlier in the evening. Soon after, the bride’s mother called the groom’s father, requesting payment for the vehicle fare. However, the groom’s father outright refused to pay. This led to a heated argument between the families over the phone, quickly escalating tensions.

Police Called, But Dispute Remains Unresolved

As the situation grew worse, both parties were taken to the local police station for a mediation attempt. According to police sources, the panchayat (informal settlement talk) continued until around 10:30 PM but ended without resolution. The bride’s family stood firm on their decision not to proceed with the wedding.

Bride’s Mother Calls Off Wedding Over the Phone

Station in-charge R.K. Rawat stated that the bride’s mother informed the police via phone that they would not send their daughter for the wedding. She also mentioned that they would be filing a formal complaint (FIR) in Lucknow regarding the issue. Following this, the groom’s side also left the venue in disappointment.

Groom Left Waiting, Guests in Shock

The groom reportedly waited in his ceremonial attire, hoping the issue would be resolved. However, as the reality sank in, guests were left stunned by how a minor financial disagreement could derail an entire wedding. The event, which was meant to be a celebration, ended on a somber note.
