- 31 Oct, 2026
The Central Government has announced a special financial inclusion campaign to help people access banking services and government-backed social security schemes. The campaign, running from October 21 to December 31, 2026, aims to connect eligible citizens who are still outside the formal banking system with essential financial benefits.
The initiative will be conducted through Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies, with banks expected to organise registration and awareness activities. It is an opportunity for people to check whether their bank accounts, insurance registrations and pension-related details are up to date.
Which Government Schemes Are Included in the Campaign?
The special campaign will focus on helping eligible citizens enrol in three important government-backed schemes.
-
Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY): A life insurance scheme that provides financial protection to the nominee in case of the insured person's death, subject to the scheme's conditions.
-
Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY): An accident insurance scheme that provides cover for accidental death and disability to eligible subscribers.
-
Atal Pension Yojana (APY): A pension scheme designed primarily for eligible workers in the unorganised sector, offering a guaranteed minimum monthly pension after reaching the prescribed age, subject to contribution and eligibility conditions.
People who have not enrolled in these schemes can enquire about eligibility, contributions and registration procedures at participating bank branches or campaign camps.
Jan Dhan Account Holders Can Also Benefit
The campaign will also focus on the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), which aims to provide access to basic banking services.
The following activities will be undertaken:
-
Opening Jan Dhan accounts for eligible individuals who do not have a bank account.
-
Special efforts to open accounts for eligible families belonging to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
-
Reactivating eligible Jan Dhan accounts that have become inoperative.
-
Helping customers complete pending KYC requirements.
If your Jan Dhan account has not been used for a long time, you can contact your bank and ask whether it needs reactivation.
Update Your Aadhaar, KYC and Bank Nomination Details
One of the important objectives of the campaign is to help customers complete pending banking formalities.
Banks will focus on Aadhaar seeding for eligible PMJJBY and PMSBY accounts, completing re-KYC requirements and generating pending Central KYC (C-KYC) identification numbers.
Customers will also be encouraged to update their nominees in savings accounts and other banking facilities, including lockers.
Keeping nomination details updated can help family members avoid unnecessary difficulties when claiming deposits or accessing banking facilities in the future.
How to Check Whether Your Bank Account Needs Updating
If you want to make use of the campaign, follow these steps:
-
Visit your nearest bank branch or enquire about the special financial inclusion camp in your Gram Panchayat or Urban Local Body.
-
Carry your Aadhaar card, PAN card if applicable, bank passbook and registered mobile phone.
-
Ask the bank official to check your KYC status and Aadhaar seeding.
-
Check whether you are eligible for PMJJBY, PMSBY or APY.
-
Verify the nominee details linked to your savings account.
-
If your Jan Dhan account is inactive, ask the bank about the reactivation process.
Do not share your ATM PIN, OTP, internet banking password or UPI PIN with anyone claiming to help you complete these formalities.
Government Also Focuses on Unclaimed Deposits and Digital Fraud Awareness
The campaign is not limited to opening accounts and enrolling people in insurance schemes. It will also spread awareness about how customers can claim inactive or unclaimed bank deposits.
Financial literacy activities will cover precautions against digital fraud, reporting suspicious transactions and registering complaints through the appropriate banking channels.
Customers who have lost access to an old bank account or are unsure about unclaimed deposits can use the opportunity to seek guidance from bank officials.
December 31 Is the Campaign Deadline
The special financial inclusion campaign is scheduled to continue until December 31, 2026. Eligible citizens should use this period to check their banking records, complete pending KYC formalities and understand the benefits of government-backed insurance and pension schemes.
Rather than waiting until a financial emergency arises, customers can use these banking camps to ensure that their accounts, nominations and social security registrations are properly updated.
