Google to Invest $10 Billion to Build Asia's Largest Data Center Cluster in Visakhapatnam, India

Google is set to make a historic investment of $10 billion (approximately ₹88,730 crore) in India by establishing a massive data center cluster with a capacity of 1 gigawatt in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This will mark Google's first large-scale data infrastructure investment in India and is expected to become Asia's largest data center hub upon completion.

The project involves constructing three data center campuses located in Adavivaram and Tarluvada villages of Visakhapatnam district and Rambilli village in Anakapalli district. These campuses are slated to be operational by July 2028. The development will include the installation of three high-capacity submarine cables, dedicated cable landing stations, high-capacity metro fiber networks, and advanced telecommunications infrastructure.

The investment proposal is expected to be finalized between Google executives and Andhra Pradesh's IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh in New Delhi on October 14, 2025. The state’s Investment Promotion Board, chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is scheduled to approve the project.

This data center cluster will be a cornerstone of India's first International AI Infrastructure Hub, a concentrated digital ecosystem aimed at accelerating economic growth, AI research, and innovation in Andhra Pradesh and across India. The state government is ambitiously targeting 6 GW of data center capacity over the next five years.

Globally, Google operates data centers across 29 locations in 11 countries, including the US, Japan, Singapore, and several European nations. The Visakhapatnam cluster will significantly enhance India’s digital infrastructure, reinforcing the country’s position as a key global hub for digital data and AI capabilities.
