Ahead of the 22nd installment of the Prime Minister's Kisan Yojana, news of significant relief has arrived for farmers. The Maharashtra government has announced crop loan waivers of up to 2 lakh rupees for farmers in the 2026-27 budget.
While presenting the budget in the Assembly, state Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that this relief will be given under the 'Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjmafi Yojana'.
The Chief Minister stated that crop loans outstanding until September 30, 2025, will be waived under this scheme. This is expected to provide direct relief to a large number of indebted farmers in the state.
50,000 incentive to farmers
The government has also announced incentives for farmers who regularly repay their loans. Such farmers will receive an incentive of up to 50,000 rupees (farmer incentive 50,000 rupees) from the state government.
In his budget speech, Fadnavis stated that strengthening the economic condition of farmers is the government's priority. He also decided to continue the ongoing "Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana" for women, and adequate budget will be allocated for this.
Big announcement regarding infrastructure in the budget
The government also made a major announcement regarding infrastructure. The Chief Minister said that all villages with a population of more than 1,000 in the state will be connected by concrete roads, providing better connectivity in rural areas.
Describing Maharashtra as the economic powerhouse of the country, Fadnavis said the state aims to take the economy to $5 trillion by 2047.
Ajit Pawar was also remembered
An emotional atmosphere was evident in the Assembly during the budget speech. The Chief Minister remembered the late leader Ajit Pawar and said that a memorial would be built in his honor.
He died in a plane crash in January. It is worth noting that since Pawar's death, Chief Minister Fadnavis himself has been handling the state's finance department.
