Holi is a festival of colors, joy, and a multitude of dishes. However, amid the festive preparations, the rising price of cooking gas often weighs heavily on the common man's pocket. Keeping this in mind, a state government has decided to provide significant relief to the public on the auspicious occasion of Holi this year. The government has announced that eligible beneficiaries will receive free gas cylinders this Holi so that every household can cook dishes without any financial burden

What is this new plan?

In fact, fulfilling its election promise, the Uttar Pradesh government decided to provide two free cylinders a year to beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. In this sequence, the first cylinder is distributed on Diwali and the second cylinder is made available on Holi. The government is continuing this tradition for Holi in 2026 and is preparing to provide direct benefits to millions of families.

Who will get the benefit of this scheme?

The government has established certain eligibility criteria and requirements for free gas cylinders. This facility is primarily available to the following individuals:

Ujjwala Yojana Beneficiaries: This benefit will only be available to families registered under the central government's Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

Active Connection: To avail the scheme, your gas connection must be active and your Aadhaar card must be linked to your bank account.

KYC Process: The government has clarified that only beneficiaries who have completed e-KYC will receive the free cylinder. If you haven't yet completed your KYC at a bank or gas agency, complete it immediately.

How will this process work?

The process for receiving a free cylinder is very simple and transparent. Beneficiaries must first pay the full cost of the cylinder out-of-pocket. Once you receive the cylinder, the full government subsidy will be transferred back to your Aadhaar-linked bank account (Direct Benefit Transfer) within a few days. This will make the cylinder completely free for you.

In today's times, when inflation remains a major challenge, receiving a free cylinder is nothing short of a blessing. A variety of sweets and dishes are prepared in homes for Holi, which increases fuel consumption. Beneficiaries are advised to double-check their eligibility by contacting their nearest gas distributor. Also, keep your mobile number updated so you can receive SMS notifications of subsidy receipts. Please note that if your bank account is not linked to Aadhaar, your subsidy amount may be blocked.
